Specializing in individual, family, and marital counseling. We have created a dynamic system of change called R.E.A.L.  Rationalize- REAL Counseling, LLC's established system of change starts with rationalizing where you are. Elevate- Elevation is about rising to your goals and moving forward. Activate- Once a direction and method is established, the plan is activated. Live- Living is the creation of long term goals and maintaining success.  We accept most insurance plans; however, 'in-network' status varies by provider.

Providers

Kellie McDougall, LISW-CP S, CAC-AD

As a Licensed Social Worker, my mission is to help you find a healthy direction in life. There is power and potential in all of us for healing and growth. I assist my clients in understanding the interplay of the thoughts, feelings and behaviors that contribute to the distress in their lives. Clients begin to find hope when recognizable patterns emerge. Hope grows when these patterns are understood and accepted in the context of their past experiences. Change occurs with ongoing feedback, practice and encouragement. Challenging times can offer opportunity for self discovery and enhancement.

Aleigh Everhart, LPCS

As a certified cognitive-behavioral therapist, my goal is to help you understand that your thoughts control your emotions and behaviors. Once you understand that you control your thinking, you will start to become emotionally stronger and create ways to achieve your successful future. While we can't change the past, we can work together to understand and resolve life challenges

Cheryl Planten, LMFTS

I am a marital and family therapist who has been licensed since 1993. I work with individuals, families, and couples and  have experience in intensive as well as outpatient settings.  Much of my experience has been with adolescents and families, as well as adults recovering from addiction, both as individuals and as couples. Additionally, I have been an approved clinical supervisor with the American Association of Marital and Family Therapy for over 20 years.

We will work together to develop and reach your goals. Systems theory and evidenced based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing guide my work. We will identify your strengths and use them to support change. My desire is for you to complete therapy with both the confidence and the skills to support a positive life journey. I look forward to working with you!

Dzyre Wilks, LMSW

I graduated from Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. I am currently a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of South Carolina. I am working towards receiving my independent license. I began my career in New York where I am originally from. In 2020, I moved to South Carolina and to continue my career in a private  setting.

My therapeutic approach is more holistic, focusing on the whole person. As a professional counselor, I  am able to serve the adolescent population usually starting at age 10, and prefer to involve family when counseling minor children. I  am able to serve the youth transitioning into adulthood, adults, couples, and families.

Cara Nelsen, LISW-CP

In 1996, I graduated from Fordham University, Graduate School of Social Services, NY, NY, with a Masters of Arts Degree in Social Work.  I am able to serve a wide range of clients ranging in ages from 18 and up. Individual, family, couples, and group sessions are all areas in which I have experience.

Personal interests of mine that, at times, I incorporate into sessions are creativity, my love of language and reading, the natural world, helping people realize that life is not "all or nothing", coming to terms with creative "realistic" goals for themselves and understanding that when a change is made within themselves, change begins to happen within their system.

Techniques used in session combine Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy. The answers to our problems are already within us most of the time. A professional therapist can help draw those strengths out. Please contact me today and together we will find a solution to reach your goals!

Jonathan Simons, PhD, CP

My practice is limited to adult individuals. While the past is important in understanding where we are in life, my “therapeutic style” is to focus mostly on present day problems with thoughts, feelings and behavior. Most, but not all, of my training has been in what is called “cognitive/behavioral” therapy, which has been a well-accepted and commonly-practiced treatment over the course of the last several decades. Nonetheless, everyone is different, so I gear my approach according to what I think will work best for you.

Frank McDougall, LPC

There are many reasons people seek counseling. Therapy provides the opportunity for change in the context of a safe, supportive environment. Each client presents with his or her own unique counseling needs. For this reason, there is no one approach that may work best for everyone. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a construct that is widely used and successful for most clients. I am familiar with the way that it works and will most likely begin treatment with that approach.

My worldview includes certain values that I hold dear, including God, family, integrity, and unconditional positive regard. I strongly believe that each person has the ability to tap into their own strengths and experiences to help themselves.

Hannah Simmons (Carlan), LPC

I practice person-centered therapy with CBT techniques. My passion is providing clients with a warm, accepting space to bring difficult topics so that we can tackle them together. Beginning a counseling relationship can be intimidating for many people, but all I ask is the willingness to consider making some small changes to build a healthier life.
